The 4-7-8 Method: A Sleeping Trick

Lately, I've been getting a lot of anxiety before I go to bed (see realities of the real world). This terrible cold and sinus infection isn't helping much either. Then I learned about the 4-7-8 method, where you breath in through your nose for 4 seconds, then hold your breath for 7 seconds before exhaling through your mouth for 8 seconds. The pause in holding your breath is supposed to slow down your heart rate and decrease your anxiety. It was a Godsend to me these last couple of nights when I was laying awake, haunted by the possibilities and impossibilities of my future. Apparently the trick also helps to curb cravings and relieve daytime anxieties as well. Happy breathing, my readers :)
